What Makes the NYANP Annual Conference Unique?
What sets the NYANP Annual Conference apart is its dedication to clinical excellence through a naturopathic lens—with a focus on providing practical, high-level education for real-world complex cases. While our conference is rooted in naturopathic principles, we proudly welcome diverse voices in integrative medicine who share our passion for whole-person care.
Our 2025 theme, "Complex Cases: Simple Naturopathic Solutions," reflects what makes naturopathic medicine so powerful: the ability to approach even the most difficult health challenges with clarity, simplicity, and individualized care. Each session is designed to equip attendees with actionable tools and insights—not just theory—making it highly relevant for everyday clinical practice.
Although our event is virtual, we prioritize creating an engaging and valuable experience. Whether it's through live Q&A, interactive chat, or recorded access to revisit material on your own schedule, you'll leave feeling re-energized, informed, and supported in your work. And perhaps most importantly, every registration helps advance our mission to license Naturopathic Doctors in New York—making your participation both a professional investment and a powerful act of advocacy.

Stephen Michael Nenninger, NMD
Dr. Stephen Michael Nenninger is a 1995 graduate of naturopathic medical school with decades of experience in clinical practice. Over the years, they have successfully supported thousands of patients using individualized naturopathic modalities, including homeopathy, herbal medicine, dietary interventions, and allergy testing.
While many patients saw remarkable improvements, Dr. Nenninger noticed that a small but significant percentage—about 5%—did not respond as expected. This group included not only patients but also members of their own family, all of whom had been affected by autoimmune disease. Frustrated by the lack of lasting solutions for these complex cases, Dr. Nenninger began a deep and relentless search for answers.
After extensive research, a pivotal discovery emerged: the role of helminths—organisms such as hookworms—in immune system regulation. Historical and scientific evidence revealed that humans, along with all other mammals (and even dinosaurs), co-evolved with these organisms. The modern eradication of helminths may represent a significant shift in immune function, potentially contributing to the rise in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
This insight became deeply personal when Dr. Nenninger's son was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare and life-threatening autoimmune condition. Conventional and natural therapies proved ineffective. However, after initiating carefully selected hookworm therapy, his laboratory markers normalized within three months—a powerful turning point in both his health and Dr. Nenninger’s clinical direction.
Dr. Nenninger is now regarded as a leading authority in helminthic therapy and may have the largest helminthic practice currently in existence. Their work continues to challenge conventional assumptions and offer new hope for patients with treatment-resistant autoimmune conditions. More on this innovative approach can be found in their book, available through their website.

In 2009, he received the prestigious Vis Award from the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians for his dedication to the Healing Power of Nature. A prolific speaker and author, Dr. Thom has written five books on food intolerances, energy medicine, biological regulation, and trauma recovery.
