Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common infections in older adults, especially in women. However, the infections are also among the most commonly overdiagnosed and overtreated. An overuse of antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections is an issue as your body’s natural stomach flora is disrupted, calling for probiotic formulas for restoration.

Our kidneys filter out toxins and extra fluids out of our blood to create urine. Ureters then send the urine to our bladder, to the urethra, and well, you know what happens next. UTIs often result when urine pools in the bladder, allowing harmful bacteria to grow and stick to the walls of the urethra, eventually finding their way to the bladder causing serious issues.

While beginning stage urinary tract infections aren’t life threatening and can be treated simply, if you’re no strager to a UTI, you know they come with an unbearable level of discomfort.

UTI Prevention:

  • Drink plenty of water, flushing any toxins from your system.
  • Drink cranberry juice that is 100% juice and low in sugar as it keeps bacteria from sticking to the urinary tract lining.
  • Blueberries, like cranberries may keep bacteria at bay.
  • vitamin C can help make urine more acidic, killing off bacteria and keeping it from growing. A supplement may be taken in addition to eating citrus fruits.
  • Probiotics such as greek yogurt, cheese, and kefir contain colonies of good bacteria that may help prevent UTIs by keeping bacteria from growing.
